Even in the present modern digital landscape, video production has turned out to be an essential skill. Right from business marketers to social media influencers, video content is turning out to be a powerful tool to connect with the audience. Also, it helps with conveying messages effectively.  Nevertheless, for new video creators, it can be overwhelming to navigate the world of video production. Mistakes are common. However, the problem is that they can detract from the quality of your content.

If you are new to the field of video production, knowing about the common mistakes made by videographers will help you avoid them.

Lack of Planning and Pre-Production

One of the most common mistakes made by newbie video creators is diving directly into filming. Yes, they fail to have a white paper before the filming begins. Video production is not about just picking up the camera and capturing whatever you see.

Pre-production planning is very important to create a cohesive and well-organized video. If you skip this step, you can end up creating disjointed content.  So, plan properly at the pre-production stage before everything begins.

So, before you start filming, do the following things:

  • Take time to outline your video
  • Write a script and create a shot list.
  • Decide on your actors, props and locations

When you plan your video production thoroughly, you will have a clear direction at the time of production. In turn, the process will become smooth and the final output will become more polished.

Poor Audio Quality

New video creators often overlook the audio quality. In reality, it is equally important as the visuals of the video. Most viewers forgive poor video quality. But, they do not forgive poor audio quality. If people watching your videos cannot listen what is being said, they will quickly lose interest on your videos.

To prevent this problem, make sure to invest in a good-quality microphone. For on-location shoots, you can choose a shotgum mic. If you are capturing interviews, you can opt for lavalier mics. Before you start filming, test the audio levels. Also, make sure that the background noise is minimized completely. In video production, clear and crisp audio is important to keep your viewers engaged. Also, it will ensure that your message is conveyed rightly.

Overcomplicating the Editing Process

This is yet another common mistake dome by new entrants to video production. They overcomplicate their editing process. indeed, editing is important. But, using too many fancy edits, transitions and effects can make your video look amateurish. You might think that these things can make your videos professional. But, the opposite effect will happen. Remember that simplicity is often more effective.

So, during the editing process, create a cohesive and clean narrative. Use transitions sparingsly and avoid unnecessary effects. Your editing goal should be to improve and message and story and it should not distract the purpose of the video.

Make sure that you do not do these mistakes in your video production profession. As a result, your videos will look more professional.
